The Theory Part 4 - Yoga for the Hands

” Mudra’s have been called “Yoga for the hands”. Yoga expert Lothar-Ruediger explains “Every area of the hand forms a reflex zone for an associated area of the brain.” In short, we can actively engage and influence our mind by bending, crossing, extending or touching the fingers with other fingers. When we do this, we interlink energy meridians and allow energy to circulate in our bodies.

One Mudra that we teach at LIFE is the Kubera Mudra, which according to eastern teachings is dedicated to the god of wealth, Kubera.

To perform this Mudra: Place the tip of your thumb, index finger, and middle finger together. Bend the other two fingers so they rest in the middle of your hand. Do this with each hand.

The Kubera Mudra can be used for a great variety of things, as it helps produce relaxed concentration, by lowering brain waves into alpha!

To sum up the method so far is:

Sit comfortably and Place the tip of your thumb, index finger, and middle finger together.

Bend the other two fingers so they rest in the middle of your hand.

Do this with each hand, resting them comfortably on your lap.

Close your eyes and take three deep breaths.

Now settle into a steady state of breathing (about 6 breaths per minute is optimal).

Put the tip of your tongue on the roof of your mouth. Tense your scalp, then release and feel the muscles relax as you do so

Move to your forehead and do the same again, next are the eyes and eye lids, cheeks, mouth, throat and so on right down to your toes.

Now that your body is relaxed, its time to relax your mind, by transporting yourself away to a relaxing place…….and that’s the topic of part 5.
